Who are we?
We are SigurOnline.md – Moldova’s platform for creating a safer online environment for children and young people. Whether you’re a child, a parent, a teacher, or simply someone who cares about child digital safety, we’re here to support you with guidance, resources, and real help when it matters most.
Our journey began in 2013, when siguronline.md was launched by the the International Center „La Strada”, an organization that has made online child safety a priority for over a decade. Back then, the internet was quickly becoming a central part of children’s lives and we realized that while the digital world opens doors, it also comes with risks that children and families weren’t fully prepared for.
Since then, we’ve grown into a national center of expertise in online child protection.
In 2019, we took on the role of the Safer Internet Day (SID) Committee in Moldova, joining a global network of organizations that lead awareness efforts in their countries. Every February, we coordinate Safer Internet Day activities in Moldova, engaging schools, public institutions, and the wider community in conversations about online safety, digital responsibility, and positive use of technology.
In 2022, we became part of the SIC+ (Safer Internet Centre Plus) program, which strengthened our connections with partners across Europe and gave us new tools to build a safer digital space for children at home.
Then in 2023, we launched the SigurOnline Hotline, where anyone can report illegal or harmful content found online. It’s a fast, safe, and confidential way to help remove abusive materials, especially those involving children, and ensure they are reported to the proper authorities. We are also a proud member of INHOPE, the global network of hotlines working together to combat child sexual abuse material on the internet.
But what makes us who we are is the everyday work we do to support and protect children. Together with public, private, and civil society partners, we manage the Safer Internet Centre in Moldova and here’s what that looks like:
- A Helpline where children, teens, and parents can talk online to trained counselors when they’re facing online threats like sextortion, blackmail, or online coercion.
- A Hotline to report harmful or illegal content – quickly, anonymously, and safely.
- Educational resources and awareness campaigns designed to help kids, parents, and teachers understand the risks of the online world – and how to stay safe.
- Workshops and training sessions for teachers, social workers, and law enforcement – to help them identify signs of online abuse and take action.
- And ongoing efforts to improve national laws and protection systems, so children have stronger safeguards against exploitation online.
We believe that the best protection is early prevention through education. Many children face online threats simply because no one ever explained what to look out for. That’s why we focus so much on digital literacy, awareness, and early intervention.
We also work hand-in-hand with law enforcement agencies, internet service providers, NGOs and international child protection networks, so we can tackle these challenges from every angle and create a safer online future for every child in Moldova.
Every day, our team is here – listening, supporting, responding – to make sure the internet is not only safer, but also a place where children can learn, connect, and thrive.
